Happy Holidays!

Just stopping in to wish everyone a happy happy Thanksgiving!  I'm really in the holiday spirit this year and on Saturday, I was in the mood to really get down in the kitchen.  So that night, I took the time to prepare everything: I cleaned the kale and collards, peeled, cut and mixed the sweet potatoes with all it's ingredients, cut up all my onions and celery for the dressing, cleaned and brined the chicken and divided my cheeses for the macaroni.  Sunday at noon, all I had to do was throw everything together and straight into the oven/roaster.  Sunday was definitely a day of relaxation and good food.

The two Chiefs particularly enjoyed!

I also made some cinnamon buns from scratch and they were a success except for i have to learn the shaping better. Will discuss in another post!

Happy Holidays to you and yours!

A Little R&R

My last birthday package came in the mail from Hautelook on Friday and how excited was I to find a package waiting for me when I got home. This Halloween felt more like Christmas for sure.  I'm so glad that I was able to treat myself to so many goodies.  So often I've forgotten about myself but this is the beginning of having balance.  From here on out, I will do for my son and my family but I will also do for myself--guilt free.

Here are the contents of my package:  Six (actually 7) Rock & Republic eyeshadows and one lip gloss.
I accidentally purchased an extra eyeshadow (Corset) but it's not pictured.  I plan to include it in my next giveaway for one of you lovelies!  Please know that I really appreciate your readership, comments, encouragement & constructive criticism.  Y'all are the bomb.

I'm SO excited to use everything that I've picked up  lately--I'll be doing lots of makeup looks in the near future so stay tuned.

Blue Smokey Mkeup Look look this good and have so much fun at the same time.

Over the weekend I attended one of my bestie's (Jalea) 30th birthday party and we had an absolute blast.  It had been a while since I've been out aside from my Mom's birthay party but wow, it was like I hadn't been out in months.

I supposed that since we don't go out like we used to, when we finally do get to go out we really savor that time.  I think we take advantage of  & appreciate "play time" more now that we're parents.  I stayed on my feet the entire night. We danced, we laughed, we drank, we enjoyed.

The Place:  P.O.V. at The W

Sorry about the quality of some of these we were back and forth with the little point and shoot and the mobile.

Hey look! I bought a blazer (H&M)--of course I went for black first! It's classic!

Protective Styling| Double Textured Buns

Protective Style for #TGHBPSC

I know I've been slacking with these but believe me, I haven't been doing anything special. This week though...I went to my friend's 30th birthday party on Saturday and you know I couldn't show up looking like a slouch.

I decided to do something quick, cute and easy because I don't like all the fuss.  I achieved this style by making two ponytails in the back of my head. A high and a low.  Then I took one pack of Marley Braiding hair and split it in half and then formed a bun and secured the buns with hair pins and bobby pins.  This style took all of ten minutes to create.  I can't remember the brand of hair off hand but I'll find the packaging and let you know. A video tutorial  is coming as soon as I'm able to steal the time to edit.

Blushing | NARS Danmari All About Cheeks Palette

Top Row: Hungry Heart, Orgasm, Desire
Bottom Row: Casino, Super Orgasm, Sin

Sephora Says:

"What it is:  Based on the exquisite tradition of Kabuki theatre, this palette features six high-pigment cheek powders that let you play up your features like a true performance artist.

What it does:  The ultimate authority in blush, this limited-edition mirrored holiday NARS compact features the essential blush and bronzer shades, ranging from warm bronze and luminous highlighting hues to shockingly bright pink. Turn a new cheek with this fashion-forward mix created exclusively for Sephora."

When I saw it, I had to have it.  Anyone that appreciates NARS and loves the Orgasm blushes has to have this palette.  The amount of product in each pan comes in at 0.12oz.  My heart flutters to think that I got 6 nearly full-sized NARS blushes for only $65.  With the full sized (0.16oz) blushes priced at nearly $30 each, this palette an absolute steal.  I'd love to get another one of these as a stocking stuffer *hint hint* (Chief peruses my blog from time to time :-p)

And I can't leave out the fact that I got a free deluxe sample of the Yves St. Laurent Facial Toner ($40.00/ full size) without having to use my beauty bucks.  Sephora, please marry me!

Sorry about the terrible lighting, the sun went down and you know how the house lighting is :-/

Birthday Beauty Haul + Swatches

In August, I'd done some fall shopping for MJ and as I proudly laid it all out for Chief to take a look at, he nodded his head in approval but apparently with something on his mind.

He asked, "Did you buy yourself anything?"
I replied, "No."
He said, "You should have. I mean, I know I buy you stuff but I never see you buying anything for you.  You should treat yourself."

It was then that I realized that it had been more than a few years since I'd puchased myself more than one or two items at a time. Since my birthday was coming up I decided in mid-September to go on and take Chief's advise and pick up a few goodies.  I first started with clothing items for work and play and then moved on to my Zara booties, then on to some makeup, I also bought another pair of boots but I'll show those to ya later.

I also have one more makeup package on the way but it won't be arriving until around the 23rd of this month so of course that will get a post of its own. Anyway, here goes:

As you can see I've been running through my makeup remover :-) I've been having lots of fun!

Body Challenge Check-in #5

Whatever happened to the days that I lost weight and it stayed off?  I think I just realized I'm not 21 anymore. *chuckle*

Well, here I go again.  I'm starting back up as I haven't exercised since the end of August.  I didn't finish the Jillian Michael's 30-Day shred and I take full responsibility; I was lazy.  I would get home at the end of my long days and think "let me sit down for 10 minutes then I'll start."

Next thing I knew, it was two weeks later and I hadn't done a thing.  And now, two months have gone by and I'm feeling like those jeans that I was so happy to get back into are starting to become a tad bit too tight again.  Last thing I want to do is return to this so I'm taking action now.

The reason why I started documenting this and sharing it with you all is because I knew I'd be held accountable. I need that because it's not that actual execution of it that's hard.  It's the staying motivated part that gets me.  I supposed that's why this is called a "challenge" though.

It's even more of a challenge because I have the ultimate snack lover as my future husband.  He tells me I need to practice self-control but my self-control begins and ends at the grocery store.  Its easy for me to walk down the isle featuring my favorite chocolate ridden goodies without even feeling tempted.  But once those Chips Ahoy and Ghirardelli are right in my kitchen, how can I say no?

As I've said before, I'm not a HUGE sweets and junk food junkie but anything with's pretty much a done deal. Chief knows this and I almost think he does that crap on purpose but again, I've got to hold myself accountable.  It's not like he's putting the chocolate in my hand or even offering it for that matter.  Just the mere act of buying it and bringing home, though, feels like an offer.

Last night, I went to the book store to pick up the Extreme Fat Smash Diet book by Dr. Ian Smith and I'm going to give it a go.  Now, I'm not big on these "fad" diet plans but I've been a witness to a friend of mine losing the amount of weight she wanted and getting toned in a short period of time.  Not only does this book show you how to safely rapidly drop the weight and get toned but it talks about how to maintain it as well.  I'm willing to at least give this a try.  My main focus here is health and fitness but I've got to lower my body fat percent significantly and build lean muscle or I will continue on this up and down ride.  I'm not up for it.

As it stands, here are my current measurements:

                Last Check In                                 Current                          Starting

Bust            34.25in.                                          35.25in.                                 36.5in.
Waist             30in.                                            31.5in.                                   32.5in.
Hips            42.25in.                                            43in                                     43.5in.
Thighs        24.25in.                                           24.5in.                                     25in.
Starting Over

So today was Day 1 of the Fat Smash Diet which entails 60 minutes of cardio and 4 small meals. Successfully completely

Tomorrow (Day 2) will be kind of tricky as I must break up my execise into morning and evening and Chief and I must attend our weekly pre-marital class.  Since that takes up the whole evening, I will stay later at work and utilize the gym there. The bonus, I don't have to worry about picking up MJ from daycare as he'll be with my aunt until Tuesday evening.

We'll see how things go.  Wish me luck

Sorry for the dissertation.  I try to keep my posts short but it couldn't be helped this time. lol

Fill in the Blank Friday--On Saturday

This was on Destiny's blog  and I decided to take part although it's Saturday vice Friday but...whatevs:

1. My favorite thing about this week was/is my birthday was on Monday and my fiance spoiled me beyond belief. (I spoiled myself too...teehee)  Love that guy and his surprises.

2. Colder weather makes me shiver and quiver! I actually enjoy bundling up in cute scarves, furry boots and blasting the heat in my car.

3. Three things that make me terribly happy as of late are  quality time with Chief and MJ, a full night of undisturbed sleep (MJ sleeping in his own bed), days off work

4. If I could only wear one kind of shoe for the rest of my life, I'd choose any shoe with gel inserts.  If my feet hurt, my whole body hurts. I can't take it.

5. My personality type is an introverted, analytical over-thinker.  I don't come out of my shell until I get to know someone and I hyper-analyze everything from body language to HOW something is being said.  I like to find "the meaning behind" evertyhing.  Can't help it.

6. I have a serious problem resisting sweets of any kind. I have the worst sweet tooth...EVER .

7. My favorite color to wear is  eggplant and/or cobalt blue.

Just stopping by to say hello and give a quick update.  MJs been sick but he's feeling much better and has managed to jump out of my lap long enough to allow me to sit down at the computer.

Over the past few weeks, I've done a ridiculous amount of shopping.  I've gotten clothes, makeup and a pair of shoes (and looking for more) and now as mentioned previously, I'm on the hunt for a few fly blazers.

It's funny that years ago, I spent so much time avoiding being girly and now I've come to find that I actually enjoy frilly little things, putting on makeup and wearing dresses, hah!  How things have changed.  Let's take my makeup for example.  In a short amount of time, I've gone from a few menial pieces to "where the hell am I going to put all this stuff?" and now I'm looking for a cute desk to turn into a vanity and I've been stalking The Container Store website for cool ways to store my goodies.

Here's what I got when I treated myself to a little birthday beauty shopping two weeks ago (my birthday was on the 31st and I've got two more things on the way *smh*).  I can't wait to show you a few swatches.

This weekend I'll be heading off for a little accessory shopping so I'll be sharing that with you too.
There will be another giveaway soon so be sure to stay tuned!
